Celebrating Freedom: The Story Behind My Hong Kong Coin Badge and Magnet

When I designed the Hong Kong two-dollar coin badge and magnet, I pondered what to place in the centre of the coin. Should it be the Bauhinia flower? The Queen? Or simply the number "2"? As I thought about what could represent Hong Kong, the word "freedom" came to mind.

The Symbol of Freedom

Over the years, many have asked about the little yellow bird that frequently appears in my work. This bird is a symbol I created ten years ago for the logo of the Umbrella Movement. It stands atop a circle, representing hope and resilience. As time has passed and it seems like everything has changed, I want to remind everyone that this "freedom bird" still exists. (The name "freedom bird" was given by Professor Benny Tai.)
