When designing the badge and magnet for this Hong Kong two-dollar coin, I kept thinking about what to put in the center of the coin. A bauhinia flower? The Queen of England? Or just the number "2"? When thinking about what could represent Hong Kong, the word "freedom" came to mind. Over the years, people have constantly asked what the little yellow bird that often appears in my work means. It's the little bird perched on a circle in the logo I designed for the Occupy Central movement ten years ago. Time has passed, and when it seems like nothing is left, I want to tell everyone that this "free bird" is still here. (The name "free bird" was given by Professor Benny Tai). This bird is nothing special; it's not particularly noble, nor does it have any fancy design. It simply represents what we encounter in our daily lives, something as essential as air—the freedom I breathe.
