In 2024, a Hongkonger community in Oxford hosted an event for the Lunar New Year and invited me to hold a small exhibition at the church where the event took place. At that time, I had only recently arrived in the UK, and the idea of “home” felt especially meaningful to me. When designing the badge and magnet for this Hong Kong two-dollar coin, I kept thinking about what to put in the center of the coin. A bauhinia flower? The Queen of England? Or just the number "2"? When thinking about what could represent Hong Kong, the word "freedom" came to mind. Over the years, people have constantly asked what the little yellow bird that often appears in my work means.
